Boston GlobeThe Boston Globe was founded in 1872 by six Boston businessmen. The first issue was published March 4, 1872 and cost four cents. On October 1, 1993, the Globe and its parent company, Affiliated Publications, merged with The New York Times Company in the largest, single, newspaper merger and acquisition in U.S. history. The Boston Globe thus became a wholly-owned subsidiary of The New York Times Company. Today, The Globe is New England's largest newspaper, with a daily circulation of 464,472 and a Sunday circulation of 721,859, according to figures filed with the Audit Bureau of Circulation last September. It ranks in the top 15 daily and top 10 Sunday papers in the U.S.
